My most embarrasing moment has been forgetting the words, but that seems pale in comparison to some of these, lol!

I remember though, one Sunday- I believe it was easter- my choir director came to church wearing this "Coral" -colored suit.....pink, in other words. As he approached the front the band started to play the theme from the Pink Panther. :O)Ronhttp://www.themusicministrycoach.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086668734466409828.post-3366379852444801602010-07-14T10:08:58.724-07:002010-07-14T10:08:58.724-07:00Hey TallPaul,

I just stopped and stared out at the congregation, no clue why, then heard a note and continued on. Thank God I have a supportive band behind me that could follow me any where I go. It's so important for everyone to participate, and his songs really allow that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086668734466409828.post-89996124147401351172010-07-12T16:42:49.476-07:002010-07-12T16:42:49.476-07:00ROFL!

I have a pretty long list... I'm choosing one that wasn't exactly me, but remains the most humorous.
Following a 3-4 song worship set we were coming out of slow, soft song, and our pastor was about to start an appropriate prayer. I turned to my drummer and mouthed "okay" VERY subtly - meaning we were done; he could leave the stage. For some reason he took this to mean to start the next song which was slated for much later in the service. The song? "Shout to the North" which we open with a huge drum fill. So we have soft piano and picking guitar, peoples eyes are closed in worship, our pastor says, "Let us..." and then WHACK-A- DACK-DUH-BOOM-BLOOM!"Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13445578031863988152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086668734466409828.post-22212975074926767032010-05-30T10:07:17.474-07:002010-05-30T10:07:17.474-07:00nothing distracts me like a change in tempo.
I...nothing distracts me like a change in tempo.

I've always felt that the drummer was the most important member of any band. If he is playing great, the rest of the band can mess up and not many will notice...but if the drummer is messing up the rest of the band sounds horrible no matter what.yodhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VysrYc3Ln0wnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086668734466409828.post-10107509015423271672010-04-14T19:26:55.281-07:002010-04-14T19:26:55.281-07:00I occasionally help plan the student liturgy at my...I occasionally help plan the student liturgy at my church. Usually, it's a group of volunteers that meet after on of the Sunday masses.

We begin with reading through the First Reading and the Gospel (we omit the Second Reading). We then reflect and pray on the readings, and discuss the messages coming from them.

After we're done analyzing and praying over the readings, we go to the hymn books. We use Gather and Spirit & Song. Usually we'll try to stick to songs that match up really well with the readings. From there, we pretty much follow the same format as you, Paul, with more upbeat songs for the entrance and journey selections, with more meditative songs in the middle. Also, the volunteer team typically tries to pick songs that the choir is fairly familiar with.

God Bless! :)ssanteiuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11985458693482710293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7086668734466409828.post-57725250004555142912010-04-17T15:40:25.526-07:002010-04-17T15:40:25.526-07:00Thanks so much for sharing this tip! Using a tuner clipped onto their instrument, or placed on the music stand, is the best way to do this.
Wind instruments are very subject to temperature changes and pitch can go sharp or flat within only a few measures. I see quite a bit of variation on my instrument as worship progresses and the temperature of the room changes (I play trumpet). Another factor that that can skew pitch is embouchure fatigue.
I use the Korg AW-2 Chromatic String/Wind Tuner, even though I have a monitor behind me, because I have found that most of our wind players tune to me as we go along – I'm loud and they know I'm watching that tuner!Janet842noreply@blogger.com
